As it turns out, Jon didn't need to wait too long. The moment the sun touched the horizon, there was a powerful crackling sound, followed by a sucking woosh. He looked out his window. Around the sun's image in the window frame, a halo of some bizarre distortion began to form, block out its light, and grow. It expanded further and further, a gaping tear in the fabric of Space and Time, and Jon could just make out a fantastical visage through the wormhole. Somehow, he knew what he was looking at: a Portal had opened through the Multiverse, one that led from his humble home to another World, one bursting at the seams with adventure and romance and mystery! Jon Gibson, the destined hero, was called to an epic quest against evil, and with his trusty Magic Stone in hand, his enemies would know fear!
... at least, that's what would have happened if he didn't hastily change the wish on the Stone.
The actual Portal led somewhere much less interesting, and appeared silently and without ceremony in the middle of the night, taking the place of his bedroom door. Jon passed through it the next morning soon after he woke up, and didn't even realize anything was amiss until he'd reflexively closed the door behind him.
