By the time Anne arrived in the kitchen, Jason and Emma had already set the the table. Emma was now as tall, if not a tiny bit taller than her, and her hair was shorter, almost in a pixie style cut. She was wearing Jason’s jeans and one of casual shirts. Jason had his back to her, but he was wearing a pair of her yoga pants, and red vest top, and running shoes. His longer hair was tied back in a loose ponytail. Anne was surprised to see that from behind he actually looked like a woman.
“What are you wearing?” She asked, causing him to turn around.
“Oh, well I wanted to go for a run after breakfast, but none of my things fit me. I figured these would be ok” he blushed. Anne just shrugged.
“Whatever” she grumbled as she sat down “makes you look a little gay” she muttered under her breath. Jason looked a little disheartened, and Emma shot her a dirty look. She placed a plate full of toast on the table, then ruffled Steve’s hair as she passed by to her seat.
“You look so cute monster!” She chuckled, causing Steve to scowl and pout, “and I think those clothes really suit you Jase” she added to her father with a wink. Jason blushed again, then looked away before sitting down himself. They all ate breakfast in relative silence. When they’d finished Jason got to his feet.
“Right then, I’m going to head out!” He said, “could you clear the table Annie” he added, looking over at his wife.
“What? Why do I have to!?!” Anne protested.
“Because I said so, and because Steve can’t reach at the moment” he said sternly. Anne rolled her eyes and began gathering the plates, muttering under her breath as she did.
“Less of that please!” Jason said loudly as he made his way down the hallway. He opened the front door to start his run, and came face to face with a tall blonde woman.
“Oh Mrs Farber?” The woman asked.
“No, Jason Farber” Jason replied, a little annoyed at being mistaken for his wife.
“Oh I’m terribly sorry” the woman said with a weak smile, “I’m Evelyn Harris. I’ve been assigned to your case by the hospital” she added, offering her hand.
“It’s ok, I guess it’s an easy mistake when I’m dressed like this” Jason smiled back, shaking her hand.
“Thank you” Evelyn replied, “I’m sorry for not calling ahead, but I was hoping I could speak to your family. You know, just to gather some more information and share some of our findings. Is this a bad time?” She added.
“No, not at all, come in. I was about to go for a run, but that can wait.” Jason replied, stepping aside to let her in, “sorry about the mess, I haven’t had chance to tidy up properly yet” he added as she made her way inside. Jason led her to the living room, then gathered the others. Emma happily joined then, Steve seemed a little hesitant, and Anne just seemed inconvenienced.
Over the next 20 minutes, Dr Harris filled the Farber family in on the theories and discoveries that the team had come up with in the last two days.
“So yeah, that’s basically everything we have at the moment. Sorry it’s not better news.” She said after she finished discussing genetics to four blank faces, “in the meantime, I was hoping I could conduct separate interviews with each of you, a kind of psychological evaluation” she added.
“Not a problem,” Jason said, “you can use my office. It’s a bit more private” he said.
“Thank you” Evelyn smiled, “now who wants to go first?” Anne rolled her eyes, and spotted the time on the clock read 10:30. Macey would be home in half an hour, and she didn’t want to miss her.
“I’ll do it!” She said, jumping to her feet.
