Athena Devries had almost banished the former reality from her mind...she had to be careful thinking about it, because of what happened when she did. The new reality, which kept changing, was starting to seem more real to her. She and Zelda, her friend, seemed to stop getting younger at age 11...the youngest age of kids in the Chesapeake Middle School.
She was focusing on her classes, which seemed to get harder despite the fact she was sure she'd already learned this. She shot a few glances at Zelda a few seats away, but Zelda kept changing...not just growing younger, but..her clothes more and more like the other kids in the class. And there was something else happening as well, that she just couldn't put her finger on.
At least not until the class ended and she decided to check in on her friend. "Hey," she said, a bit nervously to Zelda. She wasn't sure why she felt nervous talking to her friend.
"Hey," Zelda said, picking up her books. Both of them headed out into the hall.
"Hey, Asher...wait up," someone called.
Zelda stopped, and Athena with her as another kid joined them and he and Zelda started talking, but Athena wasn't wondering about that so much as a stranger question. Why is he calling Zelda Asher?
