"What?!" exclaimed John, "You said you could get the medallion later, which I thought meant tonight."
"I said you'd spend one night. I have the medallion locked up in a place that is locked up for the night. I'll get it in the morning."
"I reckon' you are enjoying this, well I ain't. I'm going home," announcing John getting up and walking out of the restaurant to Sara saying something he ignored. He got to the truck and went for pockets that weren't there.
"For land's sake!" cried John when he realized he left that damn purse inside. He took a deep breath to try to calm down, and he smelled someone smoking nearby. He followed it behind the restaurant and found a waiter enjoying a cigarette. A moment later, John had one between his fingers and was enjoying a puff.
"Rough night?" asked the waiter.
"I don't want to go into it. You?"
"Pretty standard. Bunch of people that want things on their time frame and don't pay enough at the end."
"I have the same problem in my line of work," replied John. The waiter looked him up and down while John was exhaling the smoke. He took in the short dress, the lack of a bra and the lack of refinement and he nodded.
"Must be tough for you."
"Sometimes, I have to deal with married people, and they aren't always on the same page. The wife wants this, and the husband that. And don't get me started when there is a company. When there are 3 or 4 guys around the table trying to outdo eachother. They can never agree and I'm in the middle. They sometimes want me to rush things, but a guy can only work so fast. It's like, I'm a person too"
"Never really thought about it. I just assumed the work was enjoyable"
"I like helping a guy out as much as the next guy, you know? I always feel accomplished when the job is done, " replied John finishing his cigarette and stomping it out with his flats, "Sorry to dump on you, I had a tough time with my daughter tonight."
The waiter turned to John and laughed, "I know what you mean about kids. Sometimes they are the best thing ever, and sometimes they are terrors."
"She's a terror tonight alright. On a powertrip"
"I find reminding reminding my son I'm the parent is helpful. It's about setting limits, ya know? Anyway, ma'am, it was nice to meet you but I got to go back to work. Good luck with your kid and I hope your client tonight treats you well," said the waiter going back into the building.
"Client?" pondered John going back to the front of the restaurant.
