Jon heard footsteps in the hallway outside his bedroom. They were too light to be his father's, but too loud to be his little brother Mikey's. Could it be his new sister? After rushing to the door and opening it, he saw it was Karyn.
He froze. This wasn't blonde Karyn, or even red haired Karyn...it was brown haired Karyn. He never thought the stone would pick Karyn as his sister. He actually felt a little weird about it. She looked younger, and was still dressed a bit tomboyish...and she didn't have her typical green jumper or pants. She even looked a little like his Mom...but was clearly Karyn.
While Karyn now looked like she belonged to his family, she wasn't Goth, like Zoe was. He thought that the girls would swap lifestyles too, but it seemed that wasn't the case. She actually seemed weirded out. "Why are you staring at me?" She asked, looking confused, and completely oblivious that anything was wrong.
"Umm..." he tried to make up a reason. "We're...good, right?"
Karyn frowned. "Yeah..." she said. She shook her head. "Seriously...is something wrong? You're freaking me out, Jon."
Jon blinked, trying to act like this was normal...which it was for everyone else. "I just...is there something different about you?"
"No," she said, turning to the hall mirror. She shook her head, looking legitimately concerned. "When you're ready to tell me whatever....this is...I'll be in my room, okay?"
"Okay," he said, turning and heading back inside and closing the door.
Karyn looked at her older brother's closed door. She and Jon got along well...hung out sometimes...though they both preferred to hang out with their friends. Something was going on with him today, she noticed that much. Maybe it was their grandfather's death. He'd taken it pretty hard. Not that she hadn't, but he seemed convinced it wasn't real and Grampa wasn't really gone. Maybe she should talk to their Mom.
