"Zoe...I have to work till 6 tonight," her mother said as she entered the kitchen. "Can you handle dinner and keep an eye on your brother?"
"Which one?" Zoe joked, knowing she was talking about Jon.
"Ha ha," Linda said, not amused.
"Sure, Mom...just...tomorrow night I'm busy after school...so...."
"I know, dear...you deserve a social life too. But we all have to help out around the house."
"Not like I chose to be the oldest," Zoe said. "I mean...you don't expect Jon to do much, and Mike is well..."
"Your brother has many good qualities...unfortunately, cleaning is not one of them. I still haven't given up hope though," Linda said.
She sat down and ate breakfast, scrolling through a few things on her phone. "Gotta get going," she said.
"Have a good day..." Linda said. "Remember, Jon has little league after school, so the carpool will drop him off around 5."
Zoe hustled out the door. She wanted to talk to someone before class.
