Barb ended up eating her cold lunch in the Service Class room. It wasn't a classroom so much as an old shop room that was full of junky old electronics and other items that had been dropped off, as well as some school items they took care of.
She ate her lunch, taking the insides out of an old radio and grumbling to herself until it was time for her to go to her next class, and she'd calmed down. the rest of day was just a series of boring classes.
After her last class, she returned to the Service Class and finished extracting the old radio components from the case. She stripped the wires for the dial and the knobs and put connectors and bagged them for later. She removed the speaker. Tomorrow, she'd clean up the case, maybe get something to make the wood look new again, Mr. Quinn would help her, and then she could start upgrading the hell out of it. By the time she finished, it was a quarter to four. She headed out of the school, passing by the gym and hearing the sound of music...cheerleading practice. She grumbled again, stirring up her annoyance again. She didn't give a damn about cheerleaders, and was more annoyed at the attitude.
And, in an amazing coincidence, at 3:47PM exactly...Barb made a wish. "I wish things were different." She didn't even particularly think it through. The teen was just frustrated and feeling isolated...something many teens feel. Unfortunately, many teens didn't make their wish at a school that was the subject of another wish. And that odd coincidence meant her week would be different than any other in town.
Suddenly, from Barb's perspective, a glowing light surrounded her vision. And when it cleared...
