Jon’s head was swimming after everything Ruby had just told him. Part of him knew what she said was true, he had been feeling a lot happier and content with his new found relationship with Shaun, no Laura, not to mention the growing friendship with Lar…Sarah.
“This is about to take in” he eventually muttered.
“I understand” Ruby said softly, “if you’ve got any questions, I’ll happily answer them” she added with a kind smile. Jon sat in thought for a moment.
“You said these changes have made everyone happier,” he said eventually, “how?” He asked.
“Well” Ruby replied, taking a breath, “I’ve covered your family already, so let’s go over some other” she added. She pointed over at where the former Lucy MacMillan stood by the grill.
“She was in an unhappy relationship with a cheating husband, now he has a devoted wife, who is more self-assured than she ever was, your new best friend has the chance to do more as an adult than she ever could as a teenager, free from the chain of popularity. Biff was jealous of his girlfriends standing in the social hierarchy, and was worried she would leave him, now he’s the one at the top of the pack, and his new boyfriend is insanely loyal. Mollie has everything she could never have in her old position, and her old tormentor, well he got what he deserves don’t you think, but also a chance to grow and improve himself.”
“I see you point,” Jon nodded, “ok, but what about them?” He added with a nod towards the two dogs lazing in the sun.
“I was wondering when you’d ask about that” Ruby smiled, “that’s an easy one, both Lydia and Max wanted kids, but neither of them had any luck finding anyone, and unfortunately Lydia couldn’t have any if she wanted. Buster and Penny both wanted to treat their owners with the same love and kindness they’d be shown.”
“Ok, I get the picture now” Jon said, taking a second to process this new information. He looked around at everyone laughing and joking. They did all seem happy.
“And you haven’t done anything to alter their minds or their perceptions?” He asked.
“There’s the genetic memory I mentioned to you before, and that was just aid the transitions, nothing to make them feel things they didn’t already have buried inside already. Plus today there’s a little to alter reality to allow the rest of the world to start accepting their new places. I haven’t forced anyone to feel anything against their will.” Ruby replied. Jon thought again, weighing up everything she’d told her. He looked over at his former mother, now his husband, then this new children. He felt a surge of pride and happiness he’d never felt before. Was she telling the truth, sure he’d always wanted to get married and have kids. But like this? He rubbed his forehead again, and let out a deep sigh.
“So what’s this proposal you said you have?” He asked after a moment.
