Robert returned with the cart, and then poured several glasses and brought them to where Laura, Lucy, Sarah, and Jon sat, and offered one to each. Lucy raised hers. "I hope this becomes a regular event for all of us," she said. They all drank. "And now, let's eat."
They headed toward the food Robert had set up. Jon paused as he passed the man in the maid's outfit. "I'm Jon Gibson," he said, politely.
"Robert," he said. "Would you like something, Madame Gibson?"
Jon looked at him oddly. "Umm...no, no thank you."
He went to tell the others to come join them.
Jon, meanwhile, looked across at where Sarah and Lucy were sitting. He reached over and lightly grasped Laura's free hand, squeezing it gently. "I'm just going to give up correcting people when they call me ma'am or madame," he remarked.
"When I filled up the car, the man at the station called me sir," Laura said. "I suppose it is something we'll get used to until this is fixed."
"I get the feeling the doctors know as much about what's happening as we do, despite all the tests," Lucy said. "But...it isn't so bad. I mean...I feel like it's just the kick in the pants I needed to get out of a rut I was in."
"You weren't in a rut," Sarah said.
"That's sweet, love...but things had become routine. This wasn't the change in routine I'd hoped for, but..."
Karyn suddenly ran up to Laura, with Mollie and Biff a few paces behind, walking normally. "Mollie and I played catch...and she said I'm pretty good..."
Laura laughed. "Well, that's great, buddy. Now, why don't we get something to eat and then we can all use the pool?"
