Before Zoe could make it to Athena, she saw something that made her want to retch, Biff Meadows stepping out from between some bookshelves and leaning down to kiss Athena, who by all appearances was quite receptive. Zoe screeched to a halt as she watched Biff sit down next to Athena and put his arm around the goth girl. Actually, now that she noticed it, Biff was dressed as a goth himself, with a torn black tee shirt, a lip piercing he certainly hadn't had the previous day, and a pair of similarly black jeans. Even his formerly sandy blond hair was now dyed jet black.
Zoe ended up fleeing the library; apparently Athena wasn't unaffected by whatever weirdness had overtaken the town and wouldn't be able to help her. She bumped into someone in her haste to leave and ended up landing on her rear. She looked up to see who she'd run into, and initially thought it was Sarah McMillan but then realized she was wrong. It was a girl who looked a great deal like Sarah, from the honey blonde hair to the outfit, a tight pink tanktop and frilly black skirt, but this girl was a bit shorter and a bit younger looking, and brown eyes instead of Sarah's baby blues.
Also Sarah stepped up to stand next to the girl, saying to Zoe, "Hey, don't go running into my baby sister! C'mon Leona, let's go."
"Sure thing, Sare-bear," the girl replied, following Sarah off down the hall.
'Is Sarah multiplying? I was wrong, this world isn't weird, it's insane!'
Zoe decided after that to just try and keep her head down, by her time until she could get home and try to figure out what to do. No one else seemed to know things had changed, or that anything was wrong and she realized she'd seem like the crazy one if she went around pointing it out. She just kept quiet and tried not to freak out when she discovered Biff was now the de facto leader of the Goth clique
By the end of the day, Zoe had a rough tally of who at Lakeview Academy had been changed by whatever happened the previous night to turn the world upside down. For all she knew there were more changes out in the town, like her mother suddenly being married to a woman, but she felt like she at least knew what she was dealing with as far as school was concerned.
As far as she could tell, four students had been entirely transformed, while another four had been radically altered mentally but were otherwise physically the same. All eight of them were, or at least had been juniors prior to today and she knew some of them only vaguely so she couldn't be totally sure of all the differences. There were a lot of knock on effects, since this new reality reflected these changes, like Athena suddenly dating Biff, but most of them seemed to be fallout from those eight people changing drastically.
As for the transformations, obviously the first one was her brother Jon becoming her twin sister Juliet. Besides her, it seemed that Karyn Black had become Yuki Meshida's little sister Hikari, and their mothers were now married. Leonard Drullers was gone, replaced, presumably based on the name, by Leona McMillan, Sarah's new little sister. Leona looked nothing like the old Leonard, and indeed was like a mini-Sarah so she was really just basing that assumption on the name and the fact that Leonard was nowhere to be seen. Finally Kyla Leeson was gone, replaced by Kylie Vanderfield, Lily Vanderfield's little sister; again she was going largely by the names, but Kylie did look a little like the old Kyla, albeit much prettier.
All in all, the four juniors had all become freshman girls, and apparently the most popular four girls in Zoe's grade, not that she particularly cared about that sort of thing. Well, at least not that she would admit. All four were now members of the cheerleading squad in addition to several other extracurriculars, were basically beloved by students and teachers alike and seemed to be best friends with each other. It was still weirding Zoe out to see her twin be so, well, everything Zoe wasn't.
The ones who had changed mentally were in someways just as startling. Biff was no longer on the football team, and was now a central figure in her own clique, the Goths. Having to watch him basically hold court with her friends at lunch, just like he used to do with his jock cronies, was disconcerting to say the least. Steve Farber hadn't changed much on the surface, but apparently he was now known as a massive stoner and similarly wasn't on the team anymore. Tiffany Sanders was bizarrely now known as the nerdiest kid in school. She hadn't physically changed, but between her shapeless unfashionable clothes, braces, coke bottle glasses and newly acquired stutter it was hard to see the former number two on the Cheerleading squad underneath. Finally Nadine Ferguson, who'd been an incredibly religious and conservative girl, was now the school's biggest delinquent and she looked the part. She wore essentially biker clothes, which fit with her new motorcycle, had a dyed white mohawk and was constantly getting in trouble for lighting up cigarettes in the girl's bathroom.
Ripple effects were a bit harder to track. Some where obvious, like Biff now dating Athena, and some were harder to spot. Bizarrely enough Zoe realized she herself was somewhat better regarded by students not in the Goth clique, though pretty much all of them just referred to her as "Juliet's sister". Apparently when your twin was so well liked, people were at least neutral to you. She didn't know how she felt about that.
Yuki was now biracial like her new sister, much more outgoing, fashionable and spoke fluent English, presumably due to her different parentage. Amber Levine was now the vice-captain of the cheerleaders since Tiffany wasn't, and Mike Matthews was apparently the new captain of the football team. She guessed there must be countless more little changes, but that's all she could determine for sure.
