As they stepped into Lakeview Academy, Zoe saw Juliet make a beeline for a red-haired girl she didn't recognize. While she had red hair, her features were decidedly Asian, making Zoe wonder if she dyed it or was biracial. The two girls started giggling and looking at each other in the compact mirror Juliet produced from her purse, making Zoe roll her eyes in disgust. She stopped Trevor Blake, an older member of the Goths, and asked "Who's the girl with Juliet?" Trevor closed his locker with the usual slam, and stared at Zoe like she was an idiot.
"Uh, dude that's Hikari Meshida-Black, isn't she like your sister's best friend?" That confused Zoe, since Jon's best friend had always been Karyn Black. Was Hikari a transformed Karyn, or was Juliet's best friend just different since she was two years younger now.
Zoe tried to play it off, "Whatever, like I pay attention to her friends. Anyway, have you seen Thena?" Trevor shrugged, "Nah, but Sabrina mentioned they were gonna be in the library working on something." Zoe nodded and began making her way towards the Library. As she walked through the school she kept her eyes peeled for any other changes that might have taken place. Unfortunately Lakeview was a big enough school, especially since Zoe kept to her insular goth friend group, that she didn't recognize every student, so she couldn't pinpoint if anyone else had changed.
Eventually Zoe arrived at the library and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Athena and Sabrina, another member of the Goth clique, studying at the far table. Neither of the other two girls appeared different from how she remembered them. Picking up her pace, she rushed over to their table.
