"Do you have the stone?" Myka whispered to Zendaya. On the way home, she had intended on going straight to her bedroom and grab the stone, figuring that it would still be there, despite the bedroom probably looking much different, now that she was a 17-year old girl instead of a 10-year old boy. But when they arrived home and she realized that it wasn't even her original house, now in a completely different subdivision as well, she thought that maybe things had changed so much that she probably didn't have the stone anymore. Which meant that it was probably back with Zendaya. Normally, she might be a bit sneaky, looking for the stone behind her adopted sister's back, but this was an emergency. She had already waited too long through not one, but two schools, during the day. She wasn't going to wait any longer. So that's why she flat-out asked Zendaya about the stone.
The black girl's eyes went wide. "H-how do you know about that? Wait, did Karyn tell you? You said you were friends with her now," she said, then suddenly became more suspicious. "Is that why you're friendly with her now? Because she told you about the stone? Or did you spy on her and figure it out?" She knew that she should be doing her best to comfort her sister right now, considering what Steve did, but the wishing stone took precedence.
"I ... no, nothing like that happened," Myka said. "I already knew about it. I can't get into it all right now, but I used the stone to make a wish and now it's out-of-control."
"You made a wish? When?" Zendaya asked, confused.
"This morning. Then again later in the day."
"That's impossible. I've had the stone with me all day. See?" she said, taking it out of her purse.
Myka looked at it. It looked exactly like the same stone. She grabbed for it.
