Myka started to panic again. The changes to Karyn were already happening. She had aged by one year! If she aged even more, it was quite possible that she'd not even be Zendaya's friend anymore, and maybe even forget about the stone. That would leave her adopted sister as the only one who knew about the stone, and the only one who could help her figure things out.
"Okay, we're here. Home sweet home," Lanie said, parking the car in the driveway. It wasn't the same house Myka had woken up at this morning. Lara had insisted on a nicer house than Linda had. When she divorced her husband, she was a good enough lawyer to know that it was in her best interests to make it quick and painless. If he hired a lawyer even half as good as she was, because she made more money than he did, she could lose a lot. Fortunately for her, his demands were simple. He wanted the house, which she didn't want anymore anyway. She would have to continue to put money into the college funds of all three girls...but she was counting on Gena not ending up anywhere near college, so that would save some money.
The house was in a newer subdivision in town than Myka's old house. Myka wasn't sure what it meant. They all got out, and headed inside.
"Zendaya...can we talk for a minute?" Myka said.
"Sure," she said.
Lanie looked at Gena. "Can you help me figure out dinner?"
"I'm not helping you cook," Gena said.
"I think this is an...order in night. I need you to help me pick a place." Lanie actually wanted to try to talk to Gena alone again. The fact she was being nice...well, by Gena's standards, made her think there was an opportunity. She pulled Gena into the kitchen.
"How are you doing?" Zendaya asked Myka. "I mean...I know people think Steve is sexy...but..."
"Do you have the stone?" Myka whispered to her.
