Simon made his way down the stairs to the basement rec-room where he found Karyn sitting cross legged on the floor in front of the large tv. She had the switch connected and was in the middle of a Pokémon battle. Simon was surprised to notice how much younger she looked now, her face and hands were a little chubbier, and her hair a lot shorter. If it wasn’t for her still sizeable busy, she could easily be mistaken for a teen boy.
“Hi Karyn,” he said as he approached, “can I talk to you for a second?” It took a Karyn a second to respond as she was so engrossed in the game. Eventually it came to her turn to attack and se left it idling and looked up at him.
“Am I in trouble?” She asked nervously.
“No, not at all” Simon replied calmly, “I wanted to ask you something…personal” he added with a little hesitation. He sat down on the sofa next to her, making sure to pull the underside of his skirt under his legs. He smoothed out the front and pulled the bag of his shoulders.
“Ok,” Karyn sounded relieved, “what is it?”
“Well,” Simon began, “I’m not sure how to ask this, but when I was at the mall earlier, I found I kept noticing a lot of the other girls, and I felt a really strong attraction to them. I’ve heard Jon and Laura talking about having different feelings thanks to what happened, and I guess I just wanted to know if I felt this way because of a part of me… or a part of you?” He asked. Karyn blinked a few times, and Simon could tell she hadn’t understood, so he thought for a moment.
“Ok, before all this happened,” he said a bit slower “did you like boys or girls?” Karyn’s eyes went wide with shock as the realisation sunk in.
“Oh, umm…” she stammered, looking away nervously.
“It’s ok if you don’t want to answer that” Simon replied with a smile, “I just wanted to know to help me process what’s going on.” He added calmly.
“No, it’s ok” Karyn sighed, “I don’t really know myself. I think I kind of liked both?” She added with a shrug.
“So you’re bisexual?” Simon asked. Karyn shrugged again.
“That would make sense,” Simon muttered to himself, “maybe your attraction to women has mixed with mine?” He mused. He looked up at saw her staring at him blankly.
“Sorry,” he grinned apologetically “I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed, so anything that helps make a tiny bit more sense of this situation is good.” He added, noticing he was still losing her.
“S’ok” Karyn replied, her eyes darting between him and the game on the screen. Simon noticed this and smiled.
“How far are you?” He asked nodding towards to the screen. Hey eyes lit up again and she grabbed the controller.
“I’m on like my 5th gym now. My starter is fully evolved, and it’s really strong, but I’ve got a bunch of other strong ones so I can beat the leader, but I haven’t got the right types for this this fun really, but I’m still doing really well!” She blurted. Simon nodded along as she began to show him all the Pokémon in her team, and how far along the evolutions were. He remembered Mikey showing him stuff like this before, but he was never really able to understand what he meant. Now he seemed to have a bit more knowledge of the game, and found he was able to offer a bit more advice.
“Sounds like you’re doing pretty well then” he smiled after she finished her demonstration.
“Yeah, it’s been really fun. I was worried I was in trouble cause I been on it for aaaages” she replied with a wide grin.
“Not at all” Simon smiled back, “but you might want to start wrapping up soon. I think they’re about to start dinner cooking” he added with a loud whisper and a wink. Karyn nodded emphatically.
“Yeah ok” she grinned, “imma do this battle then I’ll come up” Simon nodded and stood back up, straightening out his skirt as he did.
“Good luck” he said as he made his way upstairs.
