"Language." A voice chided from behind her, making Zoe jump. She turned around to see the woman from the photo's wearing a robe and carrying two cups of coffee up the stairs. The woman was tall with flowing black hair and attractive features. Her skin had a slight olive tone, and Zoe thought she might be Italian, or of Italian descent. She looked at Zoe fondly, her green eyes twinkling. She gracefully walked over to the confused Zoe and leaned down to kiss her on the forehead, "I know you get annoyed when Jules takes the first shower, but that's no reason to swear darling. If she uses up the hot water again, your mama and I can have a talk with her." With that the woman walked onward to her mother's room, leaving an utterly baffled Zoe in her wake.
"Okay, clearly the world went crazy while I was asleep..." Zoe muttered to herself as she retreated to her room, which thankfully appeared unchanged. Apparently she'd somehow fallen into a world where her brother was her twin sister, and her mother was a lesbian? What in the hell had happened? Zoe absentmindedly played with a plastic ankh necklace on her dresser, before realizing, "I need to talk to Athena." If anyone would know what was going on it would be her witch of a best friend.
So, with some trepidation, Zoe went about her morning routine like she normally would, focusing on getting to school so she could see Athena. She could text her friend, but felt this situation was one she needed to to talk about in person. When she came down for breakfast she was confronted again with the changes to reality. Her mother and the dark haired woman were sitting next to each other at the breakfast table, both dressed for work. Zoe's mom wore a dark blue skirt suit while the other woman was wearing crisp slacks and matching blazer over a red blouse. Mikey looked startling different, still the same basic facial structure but his hair was darker and his skin had the same olive tone as the woman.
Most disorienting though was Juliet, if for no other reason than it felt like Zoe was looking through some twisted mirror. Juliet was wearing a fluffy pink v neck sweater and a green plaid knee length skirt, along with strappy kitten heel sandals. Her brown hair was wavy and sunkissed, and she had a slight tan in stark contrast to Zoe's intentional paleness.
Zoe made it through the awkward breakfast of pancakes without drawing too much attention to herself. It helped that Juliet seemed to be a chatter box, filling any potential silences. She learned her new mother's name was Serena, but apparently they called her mom while they called Linda mama. She had had to repress a retch of disgust when Juliet had talked about staying late for practice after school, and she realized she was now twins with someone who was on the cheerleading squad.
Eventually they left for school, Serena giving them a lift. Zoe still felt awkward around the woman, but managed to get through it. When they finally arrived at school, she instantly split from Juliet and went looking for Athena, she needed some answers.
