The Institute of Change was founded after some scientists discovered ways to change people’s features through technology. Paired with research that they purchased a few years later, the IOC is able to quickly, painlessly, and cheaply change just about anything physically or mentally about a person.

They can easily trade features between people, but can also customize and create new physical profiles from scratch.

Memories are a bit more difficult, but they have a massive library of knowledge, personalities, mannerisms, and the ability to copy a mind and partition out certain parts of a mental profile and add to a person or overwrite a person’s mentality.

Of course, they recognized early on the chances of the government not being happy with potential bad actors, so the IOC is very transparent and has a lot of guard rails for what they will do, mostly based on moral and safety issues. Furthermore, they limit most changes as temporary and run background checks on each participant. As such, they have been relatively free to operate and have offices open all over the world, to the point that most malls even have an IOC in one of the storefronts.

Note: The Institute of Change (IOC) was a concept that I used a long time ago when creating captions on RachelsHaven as bombernbr5. I also have a bunch of old incomplete stories that have been on my hard drives and I figured it would be cool to put some of those ideas up on FB. Feel free to use this concept - It’s not exactly novel but it provides some scenarios for people to go and do changes that society accepts and doesn’t have to introduce aliens/magic/witchcraft (although isn’t all technology kind of witchcraft anyway).
