"How about world peace?" Karyn replied.
"Who are you-- Ms. America?" Said Jon, with a slight laugh. "Haven't you seen that episode of the X-Files?"
"What episode?"
"You know; Mulder finds a genie; he wishes for world peace; he ends-up with a world without any Humans in it at all."
Karyn looked at him blankly.
"Never mind."
"How about we avoid future references to 1990's nerd culture." Said Karyn, prompting Jon to smile self-consciously. "But that's a good point."
"Well, let's try being a bit more specific." Said Jon. "First of all, we've got to ensure that Humanity still exists, after the wish."
"Check," replied Karyn.
"Oh, and we'll want to be sentient and have free-will as well; non-sentient species don't wage wars very often, but I'm not so keen on it myself."
"Double check," said Karyn.
Jon racked his brains, trying to think of something else. "Oh! And we'll want to maintain our individuality; hive minds probably don't have a lot of wars going-on, but I'm not so keen on joining the collective, either."
"Nineties nerd culture," Karyn quipped.
"Only if you interpret it as a reference to the Borg," replied Jon.
"...As it was clearly intended." Said Karyn. "Is that everything?"
"I certainly hope so." Jon clasped the rock tightly in his hand. "I wish," he began, "that we could have world peace, within the context of an existent, sentient Humanity, which possesses both individuality and free will."
"Wow, maybe you should be a lawyer," said Karyn, just as the rock started to heat-up in Jon's hand.
