"Exposure to the rays of the green sun mutates people into machines," explained the reporter, who was safe inside a studio. "Our reporters have confirmed this through ... firsthand experience."
A blonde reporter with a microphone appeared on the screen beneath the words "Earlier This Morning." She pointed up at the silver sun with her free hand. Her skin appeared to be silver, but that was because of the unusual light...at least at first.
Her fingers began to fuse to her microphone, and were seemingly absorbed into it. Her arm froze in the position she'd been pointing, and the joints stiffened at her shoulder. Her other arm began to vanish into her torso, which was growing smooth and cylindrical. Her entire body was turning into silver metal. Her golden hair morphed into a series of golden spiky antennas. Her legs together, thickening to the length of the cylindical torso, and her feet morphed into a set of wheels.
The camera had shaken for a moment, but then seemed rock steady. It showed that the reporter had turned into what looked like a boom microphone attached to a cylinder, with a red light and small lens where two eyes had once been, an exhaust port for a nose, and a depression where the mouth had been.
The camera panned around, revealing a car that seemed to be driving itself, with no passenger inside.
"What are we going to do?" asked Jon's father Mark Madison, shutting off the TV. "We can't hide in here forever. We need food. There's enough in the refrigerator to last us ..." Mark looked at his wife.
"One day," stated Linda Madison. "I was supposed to go shopping today, but I can't now."
Jon ran up the stairs back to his bedroom. If the stone somehow changed the world, he thought, maybe it can change it back!
