Zoe screamed through her door, for Hitomi's benefit, "I wish you were away at college so Mom would pay more attention to me for once!"
Hitomi felt reality warp and shift again, and she found herself in a different place. She was in a large auditorium with chalkboards at the front of the room and an older man standing there talking about something or other. In front of her was a little wooden desk and an empty notebook, and there was even a pen in her hand. Fortunately, she wasn't wearing the T-shirt over a damp bikini combination she'd been wearing before; instead, she had on a sweatshirt and jeans. She looked around at the other people sitting around her, and realized they looked like college students, and she felt like she was about the same size as them -- Zoe's wish had not just put her in college as she was, it had aged her by a few years so she was old enough to be a college student.
The professor was saying, "As you'll see when I hand out the syllabus, the midterm exam will count for 25 percent of your grade, and it will be on April 12th, that's April 12th. After that, we'll move on to something I'm sure you'll find very exciting. The outer planets." Hitomi realized the professor was reminding her of the teacher in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and inadvertently giggled.
She heard two guys behind her whispering, not as quietly as they thought they were. "Dude, this guy is boring."
"I know, but at least we've got some major hotties in this class. Check out the blonde two rows up."
"The blonde? I'm looking at the China doll right in front of us. Oh, man, I hope she's in our lab section. I'm sure she'll get an A in this class. She can tutor me anytime."
"Man, she lives in my dorm, and she's a grade-A bitch. More power to you if you can get anything out of her." Hitomi hoped a wish wouldn't escape their mouths -- in fact, she thought about running out of the auditorium, but since she was sitting in the middle of a row, she'd attract more than a little attention trying to get by the people sitting to either side of her, plus there'd be a problem when she went up or down the aisle -- plus, where would she run to?
