But suddenly Jon said "I feel funny... I think that I..."
Jon couldn't finish his sentence. His face froze in a wooden grimace as his skin turned brown and hard. As his hands froze up, he dropped his rock. The transformation was still going on.
"No!" shouted Karyn. She picked up Jon's rock and said "This can't be happening. I wish Jon wasn't a tree!"
Both rocks glowed, and Jon dissapeared, leaving nothing behind. Karyn realized that her rushed wish made it so that John simply wasn't anymore. But both rocks had glowed... what did that mean? "I can't do this... this is insane! every time I try to make a wish, it backfires. Jane made a wish to kill a guy! I can't handle this... I wish Jon was back."
As both rocks glowed once again, Jon re-appeared, slightly more leafy than he'd been when he'd vanished, with the beginings of branches sprouting from his scalp and his joints.
"How did that happen?" asked Jane, "I thought the rock couldn't reverse wishes. That looks like a direct contradiction."
"I don't know," said Karyn, "maybe because I made the wish with two rocks, one of them countered the other's wish?" In reality, Jon was now a shrub, not a tree, so the wish had not been counter-acted. But the girls didn't know that.
Before Jane could respond, the two girls heard the front door slam shut, "Mom, Brain, anybody home?"
"Who's that?" asked Jane, "It sounds like Jon, but..."
"It must be the other Jon!" Karyn said, "The one I killed! I must have wished him back, too."
The two rushed down the stairs, and met a figure in a torn ski outfit, standing with his legs at angles that shouldn't happen, staring blankly out of the visor of his mask. "Oh, Jane, it's nice to see you abrain."
"Ummm... Jon?" Jane asked.
"Yeah, it's me. Brain a little confused. The last thing I remembrain is skiing down the brainny slope, and then a giant wall of brain hits me."
"Jon," asked Karyn, "why do you keep saying 'brain?'"
"I don't know," he said, "I am feeling kinda hungry, though..." He took off his helmet to reveal a face of peeling discoloured flesh, "and you two look rather tasty."
Karyn thought fast again, "I wish Jon didn't want to eat us."
Both rocks glowed, and Karyn and Jane felt woozy as...
