The second Athena put on her clothes she felt weird, off balance, it was like she was riding a unicycle up a hill.
Suddenly the music playing in her room changed, from heavy nu metal jams of the early 2000s to a more classic rock vibe.
She felt connected to the music, like it reminded her of someone, or something....
Her mom appeared in the door,
"Honey!! I told you, you are going to be late, now get a move on! Wait, you are not going to wear that are you?"
"What do you want Mom? Me to be late or me to look good?."
"I want you to not wear you grandpa's shirt."
"But I like it.."
"I know he meant a lot to you sweetheart, but that shirt is really meaningful to me. I'd rather you not wear it to school.'
"yeah, well you can't always get what you want mom." and suddenly and very out of character for her, she stuck out her tongue at her mother as if to say na na na na boo boo. Then she ran away.
As an 18 year old she had a car, a rose pink Cadillac, and before she left she checked her wallet. This outfit was a gamble, she didn't know what it would do...she would have to monitor herself carefully.
She looked at her wallet. A picture of herself, sans the grey streaks looked back at her.

She was 18 but only just. She would need to see if that would change.
As she drove, and she was terrible driver, she felt an awkward feeling in her mouth like food was stuck in her teeth. She draged her tongue across her braces to try and fish out whatever it was. Dumb braces, they made her look like such a dweeb.
When she got out of the car she checked herself in the mirror, to see if anything had changed. Her hair was a mess from the wind, she ruffled it and it fell in her face like bangs.
She checked her birth date: 12/ 14/ 2001....that seemed right. Decembers Children.
She walked the halls and suddenly felt really self aware...she was one of the big kids! Why was everyone scoffing at her!
"Only a crowd can make you feel so alone" she said to herself.
"What was that dweeb?" One of the cool kids said to her.
Athena was caught off guard. Am I a dweeb? does this make me look dweeby...oh no...Maybe I've made a mistake...but also because looking at the guy who said it she suddenly felt scared? No, like she was supposed to respect him, maybe.
"Are you old enough to go here?" He asked.
"But I'm..." she wasn't sure. she pulled out her wallet to check. Instead of a Drivers license she found a student ID....it was for the middle school.
