Jon had come across a life changing discovery this lazy Sunday morning- You can mix cereals.

The flavor harmonization of Cap’n Crunch and Frosted Rice Krispies sent his mind to places it had never dared before. He felt unlocked, imagining all the different pairings waiting to be discovered at future breakfasts. Even if that got stale, he could add a third-

No, he decided. Hat on a hat. Mix two colors and you get green, purple, but the third always makes brown. Cereal’s probably the same way, he concluded.

Jon hadn’t quite figured out what to do about Karyn’s blonde-boob wish just yet, but the creative juices were flowing. He was sure the rest would come to him. He had a magical wishing stone at his disposal after all. And aligning all his favorite cereals into a metaphorical palette seemed much more pressing at the moment.

The kitchen was relatively quiet this Sunday morning. Zoe sulked silently away in the couch, head buried in some book or manga, or manga hidden in a book. Jon was unable to see the title so he had no sense of if his sister was in an okay mood or a rotten one. If it was any sort of poetry, it’d definitely be the latter. Either way, she seemed pretty engaged at being disengaged and Jon assumed being a pest was low on her list of priorities.

Mikey was still up in his room, possibly asleep, but more likely watching the new hyperactive streamer that had become his brother’s whole personality. Their mom banning ‘glooooby’ from the living room TV was a great move and made this perfectly quiet Sunday morning possible.

Speaking of Linda, she was busy pacing around the house, phone in one hand, comically large Stanley cup in the other. She was trying to remember every last thing for her gym bag while carrying a conversation with her nosy friend Gina (who always seemed to call when Linda was at her busiest).

No matter, his mom and her constant gripes about the gym were about to be miles down the road and Jon was about to have the house to himself. At least, as much as a soon to be 18 year old man can have a house to himself. Sugary cereal, a Dungeons and Dragons module to study up on, and a wish-granting artifact in his sweatpant pocket. He couldn’t have drawn up a better bookend to the weekend.

But there’s just this one thing about magical wishing rocks- they’re natural antagonists to plans. This stone in particular was very talented at always being just within the grasp of the wrong hand at a moment’s notice. A wanting hand. And when Linda set her iron-plated water jug down on the counter, one such hand became very available.

While Jon poured over the quest notes for "Cursed Castle of Streudehlvon", contently imagining ways to use the stone to add more color to his next DnD session (maybe he could come up with some solution to getting Jay to actually play in character), absolutely certain the stone was still in his pocket, Linda’s fingers subconsciously traced and fiddled with the perfect edges of the wishing stone, too deep in her own conversation to have even noticed that it wasn't there a second ago.
