In the Jon hallway, the lack of any person to reflect had apparently been noted by the environment, and the hall had closed entirely to the stone above, 'healing' the surface.

The smaller Karyn was through moping. Mostly because she'd steadied herself to stand on the peaceful mirror wall. She had been overwhelmed with a feeling of peace and acceptance, especially about her wishes. It was so wonderful to her it seemed like she'd never need to wish again; she was content with a perfect wish that should always be remembered as long as she existed!
...
Realizing something was wrong, she let go of the walls entirely and started forward at a meager pace. Those walls were simply way too strong for her. They definitely seemed to be extra powerful specifically because of her wish to change herself. Maybe this is why she was told the wishes were permanent? They weren't, but the more you make, the harder it is to even want to undo them...
Thinking back, she was so surprised when that package came to her from Jon and their grandparents, who had apparently all disappeared after a long vacation, and a note leaving the stone to her of all people. A few wishes later, and she was stuck in this weird rock dimension full of mirrors and doppelgangers...
The exploring Karyn groaned in frustration. Not only did none of the small wishes she'd tried on the ground come true, she couldn't even be sure of anything in this odd zone. If this is how the stone saw things, maybe there was a very good reason people didn't usually think this way.
"Anyone out there?!" There was barely anything to take note of. The floor was the rock, above that was... well, not exactly a sky. More like a series of geometric branches like a constellation above her. Occasionally they would light up, but not often.
"Why aren't you back in your cage, loser?"
Karyn jumped, jostling her new hair. That was-
"You honestly think that me, who gets everything she wants, always, doesn't know about wishing things? I understand someone like you being jealous, but stupid too?"
Karyn spun around, no one was there. A name floated across her mind, something about Milan? Melon? Did she know this voice? Why was remembering things so hard without her mirrors?
