He grabbed his phone, and tried to call Karyn. But he couldn't find her name in his phone. Karyn was usually at the top of his text chain, but, the last message was from his mother. Nothing from Karyn.

Jon had a very bad feeling.

Of course, in the age of smartphones, Jon had absolutely no idea what Karyn's number actually was...he thought it ended in 42, but he wasn't absolutely sure. She was probably with Gina anyway....it seemed like every time he saw her, she talked more about Gina. Same with Mikey. Gina seemed to be everywhere in his life. She had to be the source of what was going on, whether she was aware of it or not. She seemed to be targeting him. What had happened to Zoe? Why were her things missing?

He heard the sound of the front door opening and rushed to see his Mother and brother at the front door, at the bottom of the stairs. Mikey bounded up the stairs, and paused, looking at Jon...still uncertain after what he'd said yesterday. He scooted past him to his room. His mother came up the stairs, looking tired. His mother always looked tired after a long day at work. Linda worked as an executive assistant and paralegal at a law firm.

"Mom...do you have Karyn's phone number?"

"Karyn?" Linda asked.

"From my school..." Jon tried. "My friend, Karyn."

"Jon...why would I have the phone number of one of your classmates?" Linda said, confused.

"What about Zoe's number?"

Linda looked at him. "Jon...I'm your mother, not directory assistance," she said. "I didn't even know you were dating one girl, much less two. You never tell me anything about what happens at school, or your friends..." She said.
