"And you've spent enough time with her to know what she is interested in?" Melissa said. "Honestly, what do you want to believe...that the most popular girl in the school is some kind of villain? Sarah can be intense, but she's not evil. You are already going to get chased around by those bible thumping students for coming out...would it be so bad to spend ten minutes with us?"
Gina sighed. "Fine..." She gathered her things and her lunch and followed Melissa to Sarah's table.
Sarah leaned back, studying her. "So you're Gina Malucci," she said.
Gina looked at her. "And you're Sarah McMillan."
"How have we not met before now? Seriously...I mean I don't know everyone at school, but..." Sarah asked.
Gina shrugged. "No idea..." She actually had an idea, Gina had not been interested in associating with Sarah. She didn't recall actually avoiding her though.
"And you just came out of the closet and started dating Karyn Black. Everyone is buzzing about it."
"Why is it anyone's business who I'm dating? Does someone have a problem with it?" She asked.
"With you liking girls? Not any of us," Sarah said, with total honestly. She couldn't care less. "I just know what it is like being popular, and like it or not, all this talk, people are going to want to be around you. Might be for a few days, or longer." She shrugged. "So, I'm going to invite you and Karyn this weekend. My friends and I are going out, you can join."
"I thought you hated Karyn."
Sarah looked at her. "Is that what she tells people? That it is all me? She hates me, Gina. Do you know what I do about people who hate me? Ignore them." It was a half truth. She usually did. Karyn just annoyed her particularly. And Sarah guessed, considering how she knew Karyn felt about her, her finding out that she was being nice to Gina would drive her crazy. Win win.
Gina looked at her. "I'll think about it."
