Before the wish, Sarah and Gina had never met, had never even been aware of each other. But, now Gina was a teenager and Sarah was the most popular girl in school...
"Gina Malucci..." Melissa Smith told Sarah.
Sarah shook her head. "Doesn't ring a bell."
"Black hair, decent style..but she keeps a low profile I guess. Until yesterday, suddenly she's the subject of all this gossip," she said.
"For what?"
"She just started dating Karyn Black. They've been friends for years, and all of the sudden..."
Sarah scowled. She definitely knew Karyn, and she seriously disliked her. Karyn got on her nerves. She had a similar build and hair to Sarah, but dressed like a homeless person. It felt like a personal affront to her, like looking at herself in a funhouse mirror. "So, Karyn is playing for the other team," Sarah mused. "That explains why she dresses almost as badly as Thea Woods." Thea was like the poster child for stereotypical butch lesbians. "I should meet this Gina," Sarah said.
When something was getting buzz, Sarah had learned it was best to absorb it into her sphere of influence.
On the other side of the lunchroom, Gina was looking through an assignment and eating her lunch when Melissa approached her. "Sarah wanted to know if you wanted to join us," she said.
"Sarah...McMillan?" Gina said. She knew who Sarah was, but couldn't recall ever interacting with her. Karyn wasn't a fan though. "Why?"
"People are talking about you...she's interested."
"Sarah doesn't have a reputation for being interested in people who aren't like her," Gina said.
"And you've spent enough time with her to know what she is interested in?" Melissa said. "Honestly, what do you want to believe...that the most popular girl in the school is some kind of villain? Sarah can be intense, but she's not evil. You are already going to get chased around by those bible thumping students for coming out...would it be so bad to spend ten minutes with us?"
Gina sighed. "Fine..."
