Gina and Karyn were hanging out when Gina's phone buzzed. She looked at it. "It's Mikey...let me see what he needs."
Karyn nodded. Gina stepped out of the room for a second and initiated a video chat. "Hi, Mikey. Did you need more help with your assignment?"
"No...well, yeah...But Jon came and asked if I took something from him, which I didn't, then I told him how you helped me with my project, and he got this angry look and then left."
That was odd...she wondered why someone was doing that to Mikey. "Does he usually give you a hard time?"
"No, almost never."
"Well, maybe he's just having a bad day. But if he is, he shouldn't take it out on you," she said. "It isn't easy to be around people when they act like that, but everyone has a bad day sometimes. Why don't you cut him a little slack today and let him work whatever it is out? I mean, if he's still acting that way tomorrow tell me, and I'll deal with him."
That seemed like good advice. Mikey calmed down. "Thanks, Gina. You're the best."
Gina smiled. Mikey was sweet and she cared about him. But he had to understand that she didn't see him the way he saw her. He was more like a little brother. She wasn't going to let someone pick on him. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"Okay," Mikey said. "Thanks..." he felt better already.
Gina hung up.
"What was that about?" Karyn asked.
"Oh, I guess someone is picking on Mikey, probably someone in one of his classes," she remarked, a bit annoyed. "Claimed Mikey stole something from him."
"Well, he's lucky you're looking out for him," Karyn said.
