"You know how we were going to go see a movie tomorrow night," Karyn said. "I guess...that's a date now." She flashed her trademark grin. "Oh, and Gina...the next time you cross my boundaries..." she leaned in, "you should do it like this." Karyn kissed her, and it went a bit beyond peck.
After she pulled away, Gina looked at her, a bit dazed. "I'll keep that in mind," she said, breathlessly. She reached for Karyn's hand. "You want to head out now?"
"Sure," she said. She had the oddest feeling that she had forgotten something.
In the nurse's office, where Jon had been recovering for a bit, he wondered where Karyn was. The nurse, as usual, was pretty useless. Every time he said he felt fine, she insisted he rest till his mother came to get him.
Karyn said she would come back to check on him at the end of the day. But the final bell rung thirty minutes prior and she was nowhere to be found. "Your mother will be here shortly to pick you up," the nurse told him.
"I told you, I felt better an hour ago."
"I understand that, but it could be a stomach flu, or something worse. You should see a doctor just to be sure."
Jon sighed. There was a reason the students considered the school nurse to be useless. She had little options beyond bandaging wounds, offering ice, and calling people's parents. He leaned back on the bed and just waited, until he heard her announce that his mother was here.
He sat up and got to his feet.
