As Michaela stood in line for the coffee, she tried texting her friend again. She had been texting her since the gas leak, even calls went straight to voicemail.
Across town, the phone beeped again. Dalia jumped up straight from where she'd fallen asleep on the couch. "What?" She was momentarily afraid. She didn't know what had just happened...she had suddenly just lost time completely. "I..fell asleep," she realized, talking to herself in the empty place. She felt a bit unsteady as she headed over to the mirror, discovering her hair was unkempt and her clothes looked rumpled. She frowned. "Is this how humans look most of the time?"
She decided she didn't like it and needed to get cleaned up. She headed into the bathroom. "That is where I get clean..." she remarked. "Wait, who am I talking to?" She mumbled, realizing she was thinking as if someone could hear her. She was her own person now, not part of a sisterhood.
The shower was an exhilarating experience for her as the warm water soothed every part of her new soft body, while she familiarized herself with its parts, including several areas she noted felt good enough to require more familiarizing later. After exiting, she dried herself with a towel, and blow dried her hair, then dressed, then returned to work a bit more on her hair. "Better," she decided.
Returning to the couch, she picked up the phone and saw a notation about how many calls and messages were missed. She read one of them. "Where are you? Was worried after the gas leak."
Okay, so not her new friend...She had better respond to avoid suspicion. "I'm fine. Was very tired after yesterday, just woke up. Do not worry."
She grabbed Carly's bag, reminding herself she should start thinking of it as hers, and headed out to see the sights. She couldn't hide in here all day when there was a whole world to explore.
Michaela exhaled as she saw the response. Of course she was probably hungry and exhausted standing there all day.
