Transformation Guns: Day Two

The Gibson House, early morning

The morning light shining through the bedroom window indicated the start of a new day. A red haired teenage girl who had not been a red haired teenage girl twenty-four hours ago arose from her sleep.

She looked around her room. Nothing seemed to have changed from the previous day. Unless one were to search the closet and find the chest where Jon, Karyn, and Sarah had chosen to store the wishing stone until it was needed again, it would appear to be just the same room as it was before. The room of Jon Gibson, a teenage boy.

To be fair, a lot of the contents of the room - Jon's fantasy and sci fi novels, DVDs and Blu-Rays, graphic novels, and games - were considered gender neutral these days. There were only a few of those which seemed a bit more targeted to the male demographics in plain sight.

She was more concerned about the clothes. The clothes were all boy's clothes, and she wasn't sure how many of them would fit her current form. Should she go shopping for new clothes? Wish for new clothes with the stone?

And this raised more questions. How long did she want to stay a girl? Should she keep calling herself Jon?

Truth was, she didn't know. All she knew was that she had been turned into a girl by the Random Gun yesterday at school, and she had a lot of the instincts and feelings that went with it. When watching movies last night with Karyn, she found herself identifying with the female protagonists and wondering if she had always identified with them as much as she had that night or if it was new.

She looked at herself in the mirror. She was a pretty average looking, but fairly attractive girl with short red hair. She noted her small A-cup chest and a thought came to her. She thought of wishing she had blonde hair and big breasts so that she would get some of the attention.

She laughed. That had been Karyn's accidental wish the other day. But did she really wish it for herself? Did she really want the attention that came with it? What kind of girl was she?

What kind of girl did she want to be?

She was interrupted in her train of thought by her mother's voice. "Jon, are you up?"

"Yes, mom!" she shouted back.

In the living room of the Gibson house, Karyn awoke after having slept on the couch. The previous day had been a stressful and exhausting one. Karyn's initial blunder of accidentally wishing for blonde hair and big breasts was tame compared to what happened yesterday. So much had happened with the Transformation Guns on that day that one day felt like over a decade.

First of all, Transformation Guns of several different types, each with their own bizarre highly specific effects, had turned up all over the school and it wasn't long before several of the students were using and abusing them. Jon and Karyn were unaware of it until the Random Gun turned up in English class and their teacher Mrs. Williams got accidentally turned into a crazy person who zapped everyone in the class with it. Then Jon panicked and wished himself home, and Karyn and Sarah had to come to the rescue, while meanwhile all sorts of craziness was happening at school that they found out about later thanks partly to a wish. Then they heard on the news about the wave that had swept over the world, changing all conventional firearms into Transformation Guns. By the time the day ended, not only had Jon been turned into a girl, but several of their friends, rivals, classmates, and teachers had been transformed in various different ways.

It was hard to believe that so much change had happened in one day. At least some good had come out of it. Karyn and Sarah had been able to put aside their differences, and work together. The shared wish Jon, Sarah, and Karyn had - to know what everyone at school was thinking about the situation - also seemed to have a positive effect on Sarah. While Sarah might still be on the abrasive side, it seemed she was now going to save the worst of her venom for those who were actually doing something wrong.

Karyn wondered if some of the other bullies or jerks at school, or elsewhere, were going to learn their lesson or be better people as a result of recent events. Maybe some of them, at least, could change for the better. Only time would tell.

Karyn's thoughts then turned to the changes in Jon. The past night, after Sarah left, they spent some time watching movies to relax after the crazy events of the day. There were times where everything seemed so natural Karyn forgot Jon was a girl now. And there were times where everything seemed so natural Karyn briefly forgot Jon hadn't always been a girl, and they hadn't always been two girls who were close friends.

Jon hadn't decided yet whether or not to stay a girl. But Karyn was Jon's friend, and would support Jon in whichever choice he, or she, chose.

At least Jon seemed all right, regardless. Karyn was glad of that.

Karyn awoke, and she soon joined Jon's mother Linda in the kitchen for breakfast, along with Jon and Jon's younger brother Mikey. Jon was dressed in her boy's clothes which looked larger and baggier on her current form. Zoe was still at Athena's, where she had spent the previous night.

Jon appeared to be in good spirits. Mikey was still a bit confused. Linda was getting ready for work as they ate breakfast. "Oh, by the way, Principal Davison just called. She just said that Lake Point High School is closed today." Linda said. "It's to allow everyone who was changed by the Transformation Guns a day off to rest and recover."

"And try to figure out how they feel about their changes?" Jon added.

"That, too." Linda said. "Principal Davison was one of those changed, too. She sounded like she was doing all right. She also said something about 'Restoration Guns'. She said that some people at MTI had some, and might be willing to visit the high school as early as tomorrow, unless something comes up. Did you know about these 'Restoration Guns?'"

Jon and Karyn turned to each other. They both knew about the Restoration Guns, but only because of a wish where they briefly had access to the thoughts of everyone at Lake Point High School, and had heard of them initially from Jay Duncan's thoughts. Jay, meanwhile, had only heard about the Restoration Guns because his mother Samantha Duncan had called him and told him about them. They also knew (thanks to another wish) that Restoration Guns were the rarest type of Transformation Guns, and that McMillan Tech Industries probably had more of them than anywhere else in or around Lake Point.

But they couldn't tell Linda this, or Mikey. Aside from Jon and Karyn, only Sarah, Zoe, Athena Devries, and Nicole Tiller knew of the existence of the wishing stone, and they had sworn not to tell anyone else about the stone. Jon spoke first. "Uh, well, we heard rumors about them.."

"We talked about them." Karyn added. "If they're out there, some will want them. But we know some people who don't want to change back."

Linda paused, to take in that information. "Well, at least the option's there." she said. "If some of them change their minds later, I hope those Restoration Guns are still available."

Jon and Karyn said nothing. They couldn't mention the 30 day time limit (in which if someone stays transformed for 30 days without being zapped by a Restoration Gun, their new transformed form becomes their 'base' normal form and therefore they couldn't be transformed back to their former 'base' normal form anymore) without raising further questions as to how they knew this much about the Restoration Guns. They had to pretend they didn't know any more about the Restoration Guns, or the Transformation Guns, than anyone else in order to keep the secret of the stone.

Karyn wondered how Sarah was faring. She knew Sarah had an even rougher day yesterday, given not only what happened to Biff and so many others at the school, but what had happened to her father over at McMillan Tech Industries. She knew, however, that Sarah was a strong-willed person who could take care of herself. In any case, she would probably hear from Sarah a bit later in the day.
