"Mercifully, Zoe returned before Karyn and I could get into another full blown argument. "Girls? Are you both ready?" Zoe asked as she appeared once more. I was shocked as my moody, goth sister had actually styled her still blonde hair into pigtails, which was one of the last things I'd ever thought she would do. The one thing she hated more than being her natural color was having anything that looked 'preppy'.
"Zoe? Why are you dressed like that?" I enquired, suddenly worried. It was obvious to me that the stone's transformations weren't instantaneous; Karyn was proof of that. Ever since she had turned herself blonde and busty, she had become a real bitch.
"Two reasons. If dressing like some kind of sheep keeps me from being old, then I'd do it" Zoe said sourly, giving me a familiar, and reassuring, look. Her sour look quickly turned into a smirk. "The other reason is you, my dear little sister. If I have to go to that stupid school, we have to match" I felt a surge of anger as Zoe, flicked the bottom of one of her pigtails, causing it to bounce, and reminding me of my own.
I turned from Karyn, who was barely containing herself from laughing, to Zoe. ":Are you serious?" I snapped, disgusted.
Zoe continued smirking. "Yet you haven't changed your hair, sis. No time now. We're late."
"Late? You're not actually making me go to St Mary's?" I said, horrified. No way I wanted to go that all girls' school, as a younger girl at that. I turned to Karyn, and the amusement she had for my situation had vanished, she she figured out that 'we' also included her.
"Anna's right, Zoe" Karyn said, clearly nervous. Her reduction of age had not been kind to her figure, and it reminded me of why she was a tomboy. Simply, she was a late bloomer, and she was tall, and lacked most of the curves even girls her age had. 'Including me; I though sourly. Anyway, it wasn't good for Karyn's self esteem, and I knew all her insecurities were resurfacing once again.
"Then why..."
"Because I was already wearing it when this ditz took away my age" Karyn snapped. "Besides, you're not turning into my mother. I'm not going."
"Yes, you are" Zoe insisted. "Besides, don't you want to be there when Anna does something embarrassing?"
I glared at Zoe. "Enough! I'm not going. Don't you see we've been though a rough couple of days? My whole life has been changed, and you're not helping."
Zoe nodded. "I know, but I can't let you skip school for, I don't know, a spa say. And I definitely can't let Karyn skip."
"You might have to" I said, as I saw the time, seeing that our arguments was inadvertently a good time waster. "Too late for us to walk"
"But not for me to drive you both" Zoe said sourly, as she grabbed, and played with the keys to her new car that had materialized. I could see she was having doubts herself, whether using it you cause any further changes to herself.. Finally, she came to a decision. "Get in."
"What?"
"As much as I'd love to tease you about you clicking those shoes of yours on the pavement, I have no choice. Get in the car" Zoe ordered. Seeing that neither Karyn or myself made a move she added, "You know how the stone works, ladies. If you're both going to act like silly little girls, you probably going to become one"
Karyn paled at the thought, and I must had done the same. We got in the car, and before I knew it, I was standing in front of St Mary's with a very nervous Karyn, and a relieved Zoe, who seemingly didn't take any damage from the drive. She quickly abannoded us, muttering something, leaving both karyn and myself standing at the gate. Least until someone called out 'Anna'.
