"Well, I didn't come up with it. But...I got hired to revamp this thing around you and make it a hit. With your help, of course. I'm not sure how you negotiated a producer credit, but...so much more the power to you. We have a lot of work to do...how do you feel about Bethany?"
"My mom?" Karyn asked, confused.
"Well, we haven't fleshed out the role...that's why she's been working night shifts...so we could get to that later. I mean...she's going to be important to your story arc. We want to have more home stories for you, so, we need to spruce up your home life. We can cast someone else as the latchkey kid."
"You mean...I'd have brothers or sisters?" Karyn said. She'd always wanted those, but... "Wait...will things go back to normal after that?"
"After what? You mean when the show ends? Yes, of course...When it stops being interesting, shows go off the air..and the people in them go back to their lives. Right?" Kate said. "It isn't like we can keep on the air for twenty five years and still get renewals. But you can worry about your residuals later...we need to make you a hit first."
Karyn thought about it. She could enjoy this and it would all be undone when it stopped being interesting? That suddenly seemed a lot less dangerous than her last wish. Also, she felt oddly compelled to cooperate. Was that the wish doing that?
"I have some ideas about your family I want to pitch. Once we have everything fleshed out, the writers room will take care of the rest."
