When the next day arrived, the school was abuzz. Karyn didn't even want to know what was going on and kept her head low, but Jon let her in on the news anyway.
"The cheerleaders are having a sleepover!" he gushed as he ran up beside her.
"So?" Karyn hefted her backpack higher onto her shoulder. "You're not invited, and I'm definitely not invited. Let them have their sleepover."
Jon sighed. "You don't get it. Fifteen of the schools hottest girls, all spending the night together in Sarah McMillan's mansion? Even if we're not invited, even if there's no way we're crashing it, just knowing that it's happening is, well, it's like knowing the Superbowl is happening even though you can't watch."
Karyn rolled her eyes. "Maybe for a boy it is."
"Okay, fair." Jon couldn't keep the glee off his face even as he realized that Karyn would not share his enthusiasm. "But I'm telling you, every boy in this school wishes he could take part in a cheerleader sleepover."
There was a flash. Jon's face went pale. Every boy in this school wishes. Was that a valid form for a wish on the stone? It had flashed like a wish was being granted. And Jon was a boy in the school, so maybe "I wish" was implied. But was it granted just to Jon, or did he accidentally speak on behalf of all of his male classmates?
"What did you do?" asked Karyn.
"I don't know," Jon's lips were the only thing on him that moved.
Then the telltale chime that preceded a PA announcement played across the hallway, drawing both teenagers' attentions.
