Later that night, Jon flitted out the window and over to Sarah's house, hoping that she had gone to sleep. Carefully and quietly, she slipped her tiny fingers in between the window of Sarah's room and the sill, and heaved it open. Cautiously, she poked her through the opening and looked around.

Sarah was indeed asleep in her bed, which looked a fair bit more expensive than it had been before; Jon realized that, as well as being immune to the direct effects of wishes made with the stone, she was apparently also immune to the memory alterations inflicted on people who didn't hear the wishes. Fortunately, that meant that nothing had happened to Karyn, since she was exactly as Jon remembered her. Sighing in relief, Jon slipped through the opening and into the room.

It was too dark to see much, but Jon found that she could create a soft glow around her body; drat Sarah, these Tinkerbell analogues were annoying, even if they were useful. Sighing, she began her search.

The stone wasn't any place obvious like the nighstand or Sarah's sock drawer; she might have been a bit of a ditz, but she wasn't that stupid. It wasn't until Jon slipped under the door to Sarah's closet that she figured out where the stone was. There was a combination safe on the closet floor, closed and latched. Obviously, that was where the stone would be. Listening to make sure Sarah hadn't woken up, she set to work trying to crack the safe.

It was a lot harder than she thought it would be. Things were nice and quiet, so she could hear the inner workings of the lock pretty well, but Jon had no prior experience with safe-cracking. It took her well over two hours to get it right, and she was quite sleepy by the time the safe door finally popped open. Inside was the stone, which she removed before closing the safe and giving the dial a spin to re-lock it. Getting the stone under the closet door took a little pushing and scraping and made noises that sounded, in the silence, to be alarmingly loud, but luckily Sarah remained asleep. Quickly, Jon airlifted the stone outside, carrying it over to Karyn's house.
