Susan McMillan had been a middle-aged blonde haired and beautiful socialite who looked much younger than she was. In the seconds following, she lost all of it. Susan had lived her entirely life trading on her looks, and dominating others. That wouldn't be possible now, as her nose was just a little out of proportion with the rest of her face. Her hair was a frizzy mess, and her complexion was no longer perfect.
In the blink of an eye, everything that had boosted her confidence and gotten her to where she'd been was gone. She nervously walked up to a group of cheerleaders talking near the back entrance to the gym. It took several seconds for them to even notice her. One of them, a tall blond, looked down at her. "Do you need something?" She asked, sounding a bit annoyed that a stranger had walked into their conversation.
"C...coach wants you," Susan said, nervously.
"Now? We have like...15 minutes before practice starts..." The blond said. Susan nodded. "Who are you?"
"Susan...I told her I'd pass the message. And I know who you are..."
"I'd be surprised if you didn't," she responded. "I guess I'd better see what she wants," she told the girls. "Meet you in the gym." She headed off.
Susan just stood there until one of the other cheerleaders, a brunette, looked at her. "Are you just going to stand there?"
"Umm...sorry..." Susan said, turning bright red and scurrying off.
"Freshman," the girl commented, shaking her head. "Please tell me I wasn't that way when we started here."
"Are you kidding? You were planning how you'd be captain of the cheerleading squad and dating a football player on day one."
The cheerleaders continued to chat as they headed to practice.
Susan, on the other hand, went to a nearby bathroom. That was her one chance to be noticed by the popular girls...and she'd blown it.
