Katherine rolled over when her alarm went off. She didn't want to go to school, she just wanted to sleep...Suddenly, she sat upright in bed, dispelling the immature thought. It was her first day at a new job...She got out of bed, slipped into her bathrobe, and looked around her home. She had this odd feeling something was off, but like the thought of playing hooky, she dismissed it.
She was just getting anxious about her first day on a new job. But she wasn't some moody teenager...she was a woman. She'd been hired to bring organization to a school that sorely needed it. The school board had implied to her that if she was able to make the improvements she'd proposed...the principal's job would be hers someday. Not that she objected to being a number two, but she had ambitions.
She showered, got dressed, and made sure she looked presentable before heading to school.
No sooner had she entered, heading toward the main office, than a student zoomed past her, running dangerously in the halls. “Young man, no running in the halls."
The teen turned. Katherine thought for a moment he seemed a bit familiar..but that probably because he was like every other teenager she saw. “Sorry Miss, I don’t want to be late for class.”
Katherine looked at him sternly. “I will let you off with a warning this time as I have not officially started at the moment.”
“Thank you, Miss.”
“That’s Ms. Ms Katherine Gutfreund. You had better be on your way so you don’t have to run again.” Miss was for young girls...and she was no girl.
“Yes Ms. Gutfreund," he said, before hurrying off...but not running.
She headed into the main office and found her new office. It had a temporary paper sign that said, "Ms. Gutfreund, Deputy Principal - Administration." She entered to get settled in before she met with the principal.
