"You're right," Karyn finally said. "I don't know why I thought that Jon was my friend."
"It is another weird thing," Yuki said. "I guess I should be happy whatever is going on isn't affecting me," she remarked.
Karyn thought about that. It definitely was, wasn't it? Which meant...it was probably affecting her too...so she had to be very careful. She had gotten confused about who her friends were for a moment there. It had just hit her all of the sudden...when she'd started talking to Yuki. There was something oddly familiar about Yuki she couldn't put her finger on, and it wasn't just what she was wearing.
But, it was Yuki for some reason who seemed very aware of the oddity around her. And Karyn was becoming even more mixed up. "Earth to Karyn..." Yuki said, suddenly. "You listening?"
Karyn blinked...she'd been lost in thought there for the moment. "Sorry...what did you say?"
"I said, if you want to help figure out what is going on...I'm interested. I mean...not like we can trust the school to figure it out."
Karyn nodded. "They don't know anything about fighting evil."
"Who said anything about fighting evil?" Yuki said.
"What do you call this? A mysterious force...everyone knocked down...it sounds evil to me..." Karyn insisted. "Evil is everywhere and needs to be fought..."
"Well, yeah, maybe," Yuki said, clearly not buying that. "But...we're teenagers, not some kind of soldiers." Maybe it was a bad idea offering to partner up with Karyn. She'd been acting almost...pleasant for a moment there. She didn't know Karyn that well...but it didn't seem like she normally engaged with her at all. But she didn't remember her sounding so preachy.
