"So, you do know why Karyn is so pissed off?" Zoe looked at him sternly. "Well, spill it."
"No...I really don't. I just...feel like, I did something," Jon said, honestly. Like made a wish that was well past spiraling out of control.
She took his arm. "Let's go."
He let himself be led somewhere. This new Zoe...was she a girlfriend, or just a female friend? She still had Zoe's way of being direct, but without the temper and the profanity, which apparently now Karyn more than made up for. So...getting to know one changed person down....now he guessed it was time to meet yet another new family, unless some of them weren't within range...although to be honest, he felt like the rules of the wish had gotten thrown out the window long before now.
He still lived in the same house, it seemed. Which made sense...His current mother wasn't at school today, so she might still be the same. He'd already confirmed by a quick look at his arms that he was still Vietnamese. "So, what did your mom say about tonight?"
"Umm..." Jon struggled. "Well, we haven't really..."
"Jon...it's Friday night..." Zoe said, looking a bit cross. "Did you really not tell her?"
"No, I'm sure I mentioned it..." he said.
"Good...because I'm not making another excuse for why you aren't coming," Zoe said. "Your mom is strict, but she knows you need to have fun sometimes. I'll see you at 7, okay?" She started down the street.
Jon exhaled.
