The aliens didn’t really ‘have’ a name. They were composed of ‘many’ species really, in a ‘kind of’ confederation. Though there wasn’t really any need to co-operate once a species has achieved self sufficiency and ‘perfect prediction’ mathematics…
Everything was quantified, everything was known… physics was perfected, and the universe had been rendered into mere clockwork…
…which all broke down when it came to the planet Earth.
One planet where nothing could be predicted at all. Suddenly ‘gambling’ became a sport! It had not been so for at least ten supernovas!
Inside the ship, rotating in its ‘mostly peaceful’ way above Earth, a young alien was excitedly looking at the window. “It will be fine mom!” The girl smiled as she stared down at the blue planet… the curious wispy clouds yet another layer of excitement as she prepared for her journey among the humans.
Her mother looked with exasperation. She raised her antennas speaking to her daughter telepathically. “My little Glimfar, why do you want to be on Earth? It’s so much more interesting to watch them from afar. Why not join in the gambling? It would be a more productive use of time. We’ve learned so much about them that way.”
Gambling was fun but… no. “It’s not enough! I want to learn about them. They intrigue me. Their curious social rules, their strange clothes, media and- how they talk! It’s my dream to live as a human high school girl!” She smiled excitedly as she replicated a ‘standard uniform’ ripped straight out of an anime show. “This is what all the high school girls wear according to the latest broadcasted transmissions,” She tugged her pleated skirt and sailor-styled uniform. “I think it looks so cute!”
The older women rubbed her head, which caused her tentacle-like hair to move in agitation. “Your … dream? How… Humans are a very … dull species dear. They only have five senses and barely use a single one of them.”
“Then why do we do what we do with them?” Glimfar crossed her arms.
“Because they are un-predictable. We know everything that will happen in the universe… except on this strange planet. I certainly couldn’t predict this reaction to it from you otherwise I might have reconsidered having a holiday here.”
“Perhaps it is a sign! Let me be part of it! I’ll bet I’ll make lots of friends there, even as an alien.”
“Oh?” The mother’s antenna raised up as she crawled on her many tentacle legs. “An intriguing idea given what they think of us… would you be willing to set a wager on this? You do have something to wager on… do you not?”
“… a.. wager?” The alien girl gulped. Among her race, wagers were iron clad. It wasn’t possible to escape out of them. Yet backing out of it would be seen as a sign of weakness. The alien girl put down on a table a small marble… Ever since she saw the planet Saturn, she had been in awe of it and managed to win one of the singular rings in a small gamble. “Okay, this is what I got. The third ring of Saturn…” she nodded. “So whats do I win?”
The mother thought about it for a while.. and placed another marble. “If you win, you will get the entire planet Saturn…”
Glimfar looked in shock. Her own wager seemed insufficient for such a win! Did her mother thing her ‘that’ unlikely to win? “Humans are easy to make friends with, it will be the easiest planet ever…”
“I agree… making friends… it hardly covers winning an entire planet… so I want to see if you can make a ‘BFF’.”
Glimfar gasped- which came out more like a hiccup and a squeak. “A BFF?!”
“Yes. It should be quite easy right?” Her mother smiled. “If you can make a BFF, I’ll let you stay on Earth as long as you like! The cutest BFF you can find.”
Glimfar pouted. However, a victory, however small, would be nice to have over her mom. Winning Saturn would also be of help. The aliens were all basically playing a game of monopoly with the planets… “F-fine. I’ll make a BFF!” She nodded.
The mother nodded and waved a six fingered hand. “Pick any school on Earth… and good luck!”
“Ha! Easy!” She perked up her antennas on her head smoothing them out with her six fingers-
“No mind control Glimfar.”
“Aw. Flaz.” She pouted. “Not even a little suggestion?”
“No… and I want to see holo-gens of you and this human as ‘BFFS’. With heart emojis doing all the things involved in human rituals. I can’t remember all of them, but I think it involves a photobooth?”
Glimfar groaned. No mind control... a human to be her friend… a BFF friend like in the shows they had been reviewing from humans for the past 100 years or so… that was a tall order. Would humans be afraid of her? She had a basic idea that humans generally only liked other humans, even if that human were given a few alterations- such was their latest game to play.
“Agreed Glimfar!” She smiled. “Oh, and If you lose… not only do you lose the rings of Saturn, you’ll have to clean up my planet.”
“Your planet?!” Glimfar gasped. “Nooo!”
“Yes… it’s time you learned some responsibility. It has to be cleaned up before the next ice age… it’ll be a fun project for the two of us.”
The girl put on her school uniform and smoothed out her tentacle hair, giving it a familiar look to him styles. It gave the impression of ‘twin drills’ going down the sides in strange blue hues. Sucker like projections were on it, which could support her body. Her antenna obviously couldn’t be hidden… though her skin tone was quite human-like. Her eyes had a slightly angular look on them. She appeared to have breasts and a general proportion of a teenage human despite these odd additions. Six fingers on each hand were probably the most obvious aspect of her alien nature.
Glimfar jumped into a simple pod and directed the craft down. “Earth here I come!”
--
It no doubt caused a commotion as she emerged, then locked up the spaceship.
The alien girl breathed the air of the new planet, teaming with the chaotic people who called themselves ‘human.”
“Right! I got to make a BFF!”
