Jon suddenly found himself on his rear, on the ground. He felt disoriented, but because it was his wish, he was a lot less so than some of the others around him. He noticed everyone seem dazed, and had fallen to the ground. He got to his feet, feeling a slight bruise where he had fallen, and wincing. At least, from the looks of it, everyone just seemed a bit bruised. He hoped no one had fallen on the stairs or somewhere dangerous.
The other thing he noticed was that the incident had scattered people and their possessions all over. People were struggling to their feet and picking up the scattered objects near them, seemingly at random.
Karyn had been right next to him, but she seemed to have been somehow swept away by the crowd somehow.
He leaned over and picked up a bag nearby, trying to see who it belonged to.
"Are you all right?" One of the people closest to him on the ground asked.
"I..." Jon trailed off..."I...I..." he stumbled. His heart began to race, and he could barely speak. He was suddenly panicked. "Fine," he said, he said, in a choked voice. "Gotta go..."
He dashed away, turning into a less crowded hallway and leaning against a wall. What was that? He'd felt nervous before, but never like that. It felt like eyes were on him from all directions, despite only one person looking directly at him. He took some deep breaths, and calmed down.
He nearly jumped when the PA system roared to life. "Attention everyone...I...don't know what just happened...but...if anyone is seriously injured, please report to the nurse's office. For everyone who just fell over...that happened to everyone...please report to your first period class while we all try to figure this out."
Who is that? Jon thought. But, he was able to compose himself and head toward his first period class. Oddly though, the room he found himself in seemed to be full of strangers. Well, not all strangers...but not his first period classmates. He positioned himself in a seat in the corner, trying not to be noticed. He knew whatever was making him so self-conscious had to do with whatever was going on, but he couldn't overcome the feeling, even knowing that.
