Jon started talking and couldn't stop. He didn't even know what he was saying, the words just kept pouring out, describing an evening with Steve Farber that he had no recollection of whatsoever.
His eyes widened further and further in surprise even as his newfound friends' eyes all widened further and further in excitement. And just as Jon had the feeling that his story was coming to an end, just as saw the light of relief at the end of this babbling tunnel, Mrs. Watson's voice came booming across the classroom. "Mr. Gibson, you are distracting the class!"
Jon turned back to face the teacher, stood up, and announced to the whole class "AND THEN WE WENT BACK TO HIS PLACE AND I GAVE STEVE A BLOWIE."
"Mr. Gibson!" Mrs. Watson gave the kind of glare that only schoolteachers know how to give, and Jon sat back down and withered in his seat to the giggles of the three cheerleaders who were seated immediately around him. Jon turned fiercely on Lucy and snatched the stone back from her, placing it on his desk where he could keep an eye on it.
For a few minutes, class went on basically as normal. But then the gossip squad started up again: "Why didn't you want us to use the stone, Jon?" This question from Lucy came accompanied by a poke in the back of the shoulder.
"I don't want to risk making any stupid wishes," he hissed. "I don't want things to get more messed up than they already are."
"That's not what you said in group chat this morning," Melony hummed discretely.
Group chat? Jon thought to himself. He waited for a moment when Mrs. Watson was looking away, then snuck his phone out of his pocket. There was a Whatsapp icon on his homepage that hadn't been there before. He tapped on it, and read the exchange:
Melissa: "So are you bringing your stone in to school again?"
Jon: "Of course!!!! We're going to have so much fun with it!"
The rest of the chat was a sea of excited emojis, in series, from all three of the girls plus Jon. This was very not good. Swaps not only affected what was in the now, but they could also affect decisions which had already been made? Jon chose to leave the stone at home, but since Tiffany would have brought it, it appeared with him?
"What kinds of stupid wishes were you worried about making?" Lucy whispered, causing Jon to lift his eyes from the phone.
"You mean aside from making me announce to the whole class that I blew Steve Farber?"
"Oh, everybody already knows about you and Steve, that wasn't such a big deal."
"Well," Jon's attention shifted towards Karyn, who was leaning her newly-blonde head over to whisper something unheard to Tiffany Sanders, "you could have said 'I wish I had hair and boobs like Sarah McMillan.'"
A flash.
Before Jon could blink, he could feel that his bra was now full. Before he could even acknowledge his mistake, blonde hair fell across his shoulders.
He gave a shriek that was more feminine than he wanted to admit, drawing Mrs. Watson's attention once again.
