This was to be expected. I looked at Lady Killroy. "Do you mind accompanying us? We are going to be seeing Lady Killroy and trying to jog her memories. Having the opinion of a noble woman of similar rank might be a good place to start." She looked at her husband. "I must admit that the plight of Lady Killroy as I understand it is very dire. I am interested in assisting her become well again." Lord Swiftheart nodded and said "As long as you take one of your sons with you." Lady Killroy decided to take her second born, Fabien, along. The 4 of us went to the residence that the duke bought for his stay in the city. It was fittingly large and opulent for his station. We then went to a very quiet wing of the mansion. We were introduced to Lady Killroy again. It was like she became a different person. She looked at all of us as if we were just a bunch of random servants. "Mother, I've brought people who might be able to help." the champion of the arena said. She narrowed her eyes at him. "Who are you calling your Mother!? Where is the duke? I want to see him!" she said. This was a big challenge.
Looking around the room, I said "How far back does her memory loss go? If she is calling for the duke, does she know that this is his residence? That is a very important place to start." Sir Killroy looked at me. "I've never thought to ask." He looked at her and asked "My lady, what is the date?" She glared at him. "How should I know!? I've been couped up in here for so long!" she snapped. "You should start singing. You said that's one of the big triggers for her memory. She'll probably be more distrustful and indignant of our help until she recognizes you." He nodded and then began to sing out loud . It was a nice little lullaby. The lyrics sounded nice enough to put a noble child to sleep. Halfway through the song, there was a total change in Lady Killroy's demeanor. Her scornful gaze softened and her eyes became misty. She then stared directly at him and blinked as if there was something she was trying to place. When he had finished the song, she waved him closer. He walked up to her and sat on the bed next to her. He said "Mother? I'm here." She smiled and said "I know, Herman my son."
She recognized him. Then she was confused. "You've grown so much. I... last time I spoke to you, you were up to my hip." she said. I went forward and said "Lady Killroy, it is an honor to meet you." I then introduced everyone to her. She looked really confused, but nodded her head anyway. "I forget the date often. Lady Killroy, do you remember?" I asked. She looked upwards as she tried to recall. "The date escapes me as well, but it should still be the third month of 1352 CE." Everyone besides me gasped. "I'm sorry. What's wrong with that answer?" I asked. "That was 9 years ago." Fabien answered. That was pretty concerning. "Mother, it is the seventh month of 1361. I have already took my vows as a knight." She looked confused. "You did!? I wanted to see you. You would have looked so handsome. I know you've been training very hard. Sometimes I would go with a servant to drag you back in the house... to..." she faltered. "What happened next?" I prompted. She blinked and said "Herman wanted everything to go well. We would go back and you would go to your room."
