The new Sarah didn't just give up on competing or trying to be the best. She gave up on everything, it seemed. Not only had she given up on looking sexy, she went even further by letting her body go, becoming a lazy slob. Karyn wasn't sure if she should be happy that Sarah had gotten what she deserved for being such a bitch, or feel sorry for her for being the dweeby fatso she was right now. After all, this new version of her never bothered Jon and Karyn, though they still remembered the Sarah from before the wish.
Being Sarah McMillan...the one they remembered, took a tremendous amount of maintenance. Being just another anonymous kid in school did not.
When Sarah had entered high school as a freshman, she'd been propelled by her mother's stories of being a cheerleader and believed it was her birthright. After she'd been beaten by Nadine, she'd spent time figuring out her next move, only to be blocked by Nadine again. It was then she lapsed into something of a depression and started to gain a few pounds. She started to believe Nadine had it out for her. It wasn't until one day, when they were paired up for a class assignment that she discovered another truth. Nadine didn't even remember who she was. She was so insignificant in Nadine's life that she didn't even register. It was the final straw.
She stopped worrying about her appearance...and tended to wear comfortable clothes, especially as she put on a few pounds. There was no sneer on her face, as there was before the wish. She just walked down the halls, mind elsewhere, like any number of other students.
But, that wasn't the only change. The butterfly effect had produced other side effects. From Nadine's parents being the sort who wouldn't disown her for her new lifestyle, to her choosing a different boyfriend...and even the composition of the cheerleading squad.
"We should talk to her," Karyn said.
Nadine had problems of her own. People were starting to filter into the previously empty hallway. And some of them were coming straight for her.
