Mikey took a deep breath, then said "I'm so sorry. I only wanted to play a prank on you. I didn't know that any of this other stuff would happen. When we get back home, I'll give you back your wishing stone and we can figure out how to fix everything."
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Gena asked, not understanding anything that her brother was rambling on about. "What wishing stone?" Was that slang for something dirty, maybe? She knew that Mikey was now at the age where experimentation might be happening, but she had no clue what he could be referring to.
"You don't remember the stone?" Mikey asked. "How else do you think you changed?"
"Changed? I didn't change. I'm still the same girl I was when I woke up this morning," Gena said.
"No, you're not! You were my big brother Jon. And now you're like Zoe. I mean, how she was before ..."
"Who's Zoe?" Sarah asked. "And did you just say that Gena is supposed to be a boy?" That was laughable, obviously. Sure, there was clearly something weird going on, but boys changing into girls, or vice versa, over just a few hours, that was just fantasy, right? People just didn't change like that.
Mikey was going to say something more, but he got interrupted by the assistant principal Simon Davison, who was now down to his mid-thirties.
"Fuck, look who it is," Gena said, watching the man stomping down the hall. "He's on the warpath again."
"You two!" he yelled. "You better tell me where your friend Sabrina Johnson is, or help me, I'll ..."
"Yeah? You'll what?" Gena asked, getting up into his face.
"I should expel all three of you. You're probably in on it altogether," the man said.
"In on what?" Sarah asked, getting as pissed off as her best friend Gena. "You're paranoid! For some reason, you think people are up to no good and have decided to go after Sabrina and her friends. Us! Nothing's going on, asshole."
That just seemed to make Simon more enraged. He grabbed hold of Gena's and Sarah's arms, then pulled them both with him back to the main office.
"Hey, get your fucking hands off of me!" Gena yelled.
"Shut the fuck up!" Simon yelled. He wasn't the kind of person to use profanity in the workplace, but he was so angry right now that he couldn't control himself. Though, it might have also had something to do with the fact that he was becoming more and more like the original Sabrina, who he was, ironically, making it his mission to punish.
Mikey just stood there and stared as his new sister and her new Goth friend Sarah got hauled away. Jon, er ... Gena didn't remember the stone. But the stone still existed, so someone must still remember it. Maybe Gena didn't remember it because she was changed by it? The only other person he could think of that might still remember was Jon's best friend Karyn. Maybe he could approach her about it. She seemed like the reasonable sort. Maybe he could still rectify all of this.
