“I’d normally ask Zoe, but she's stuck at work.” She explained.
“But you don’t have any homework Mom. You don’t go to school.”
“Erm, yeah I do Jon,” Linda replied. “You're the one who gets to stay at home all day. Are you feeling alright?” She asked him.
“Something’s going on here.” He said.
"What?" She asked.
"Well...." he paused. "You said Zoe is stuck at work."
"Yeah...?"
"But Zoe doesn't work...and first you said she was out with friends."
Linda seemed equally confused. "I don't know what you're talking about."
He looked around at everything, suddenly concerned he missed something important. Everything, aside from what his mother said, seemed perfectly normal.
"May I have some more?" Linda asked, offering over her plate.
"What?" Jon said. When he saw the expression, he went to go refill the plate. It would give him time to think.
