Jon opened his eyes after the rock had stopped glowing, which indicated that his wish had been granted, and breathed out a sigh of relief.
Everything looked the same. His bedroom was still decorated the way he liked it, his posters were still hanging up on the wall and, after checking himself, he was still a guy. Satisfied that nothing had changed, he quickly put the rock away preventing him from making any more unwanted wishes.
“Jon! Dinner's ready!” He heard his Mom calling.
He called back saying that he would be down soon. After one last check that his rock was securely hidden, he headed downstairs.
Thankfully as Jon entered the kitchen, he saw that his family was still normal as well. Jon was starting to think that he must have gotten lucky when his Dad came home.
“Hi, honey.” His Mom said greeting her husband as he entered the kitchen. “You’re just in time.” She added as she began serving up the meal. Jon's Dad took off his coat and sat at the table.
“Where’s Zoe?” Roger, Jon's Dad, asked looking around.
“Oh, I think that she's out with some friends.” His Mom replied.
Once everyone had a plate in front of them they tucked into the meal. Everything seemed to be going normally when suddenly Jon's Mom, Linda, spoke up.
“Hey, Jon. Do you think that you could help me with my homework after tea?” She asked. Jon looked at her confused.
“Homework?” He repeated. Linda nodded.
“I’d normally ask Zoe, but she's stuck at work.” She explained.
“But you don’t have any homework Mom. You don’t go to school.”
“Erm, yeah I do Jon,” Linda replied. “You're the one who gets to stay at home all day. Are you feeling alright?” She asked him.
“Something’s going on here.” He said.
