She focused through the confusion. She had made a wish..."It's...nothing," she lied. "I mean...nothing to worry about."
Sarah seemed to accept that, and the two worked on studying for Spanish until Zoe's mom called her. Zoe wondered how she'd picked up so much Spanish...she'd just started French before this, but suddenly everything she needed to know was at her fingertips.
She and Sarah headed out into the hallway. "Yeah, Mom?"
"Can you help set the table? I know you have company. And then get Jon and Mikey from whatever they're doing?"
Zoe was about to object, when a voice in her head told her that was what was expected of her. "Sure, Mom..." She told Sarah she'd be right back
While she set the table, Sarah decided to be helpful. She poked her head into Jon's room. "It's time for dinner," she said. She didn't remember any history with Jon. In her mind, Jon was just her friend's little sibling.
Jon looked up from his homework. "I just need a few more minutes to finish this or Mom will never let me go out after."
Sarah leaned over to see. "Math?" She read.
"Yeah..."
It looked pretty basic to her. "Why don't you ask Zoe for help? She gets straight As in math," she suggested.
"Ask Zoe...." Jon frowned. "For help with my homework...?"
"Up to you," Sarah said. "Oh, and that dress looks good on you...I'm glad Zoe and I got rid of all that stuff that didn't fit her anymore."
