As Karyn was heading down to see Ruby, Jon had just taken a seat at the outdoor table on the decking. He placed his mug of coffe down and went to call Sarah. Just as he was about to hit call, the phone starting ringing with an incoming face call from her. He quickly fussed with his hair for a second then answered.
“Hi Jon!” Sarah chirped as her face appeared on the screen.
“Hi Sarah” he replied. He was surprised to notice she looked slightly more mature than he remembered. Perhaps it’s because she was wearing a pastel pink blouse rather than some crop top.
“What’s up?” He asked.
“Urgh, I just needed to speak to someone about all this” she said, “things are crazy here now” she added. Jon took a sip of his coffee and sat back in the chair.
“I’m sorry to hear that. What’s going on?” He asked. Sarah sighed and tucked her hair behind her ear, revealing some expensive looking earrings, hanging just below her earlobe instead of the studs she normally sported.
“Well, there’s this whole thing with Robert having an affair with Mollie that’s come to light because of all of this. Lu…moms not taken it well and he’s kicked out to the spare room. I think he’s trying to make it up to her by doing all the chores and stuff. It means Mollies been spending a lot more time to herself.” She said.
“I can’t believe he’d do something like that!” Jon gasped in genuine surprise.
“I know, I can’t blame mom for kicking him to the curb” Sarah replied, “I’m just feeling a bit lonely, after the whole clothing fiasco today, Biff has barely said a word to me.” She added sadly.
“Give him time, I can imagine he’s going through a lot” Jon said kindly.
“Yeah I guess” Sarah replied with a sigh, “I was hoping we’d still be close, but I think I heard talking to Mollie this morning, I guess it’s just because they keep waking up together” she added with a shrug. Jon smiled to himself, it felt good to help her work through things, and he didn’t mind being a sounding board for her. He was just enjoying rekindling an old freindship.
“Anyway, enough about me, how are things your end?” She asked.
They spent the next few minutes catching each other up on all the current changes in their respective households, followed by a few minutes of idle conversation.
“Who you talking to honey?” Came a voice from Sarah’s side.
“Just Jon mom” Sarah replied to the person off screen.
“Gibson? Oh can I say hello?” He heard Lucy ask. Before he knew it Sarah’s moms face popped into view. Her hair was noticeably shorter, almost resembling a mid length cut for a man.
“Jon! How are you doing? I only just saw Laura yesterday! Is she around?” She asked.
“I’m ok thanks you,” Jon replied politely, “shes just inside keeping an eye on the others at the moment. We’ve still got Dr Grant here at the moment.” He added.
“Oh, Dr Phillips just left here.” Lucy continued, “I was hoping to speak to your mom again. I wanted to see if she wanted to come round today” she added.
“Oh great idea!” Sarah’s eyes lit up “Jon, you could come to, theres something I wanted to show you” Jon thought for a moment.
“Better yet, why don’t you guys come round here? We’ve got nothing on, and we’ve just had this installed!” He said, flipping his camera to show them the hot tub.
“Nice!” Lucy smiled, “I’ll bring my trunks! And Sarah, I’ve got that new bikini you can try on! You’ll look stunning in it!” Sarah nodded in agreement.
“Great!” Jon smiled, feeling genuinely excited at the prospect of the MacMillans paying a visit, “I’d say give us an hour to wrap things up here then!” He added.
“Perfect, we’ll go start getting ready then” Lucy grinned back as she disappeared.
“Ok babes, we’ll see you in an hour then” Sarah added, kissing the air and waving before hanging up. Jon finished his coffee and stood up with a slight groan.
“Better go break the news then” he smirked as he headed back inside to find Laura heading towards the basement with a sullen looking Mikey.
