Betty went back to the first tree and snapped off one of the blue branches. She needed to take it back to the science lab and examine it. She took a plastic baggy out of her purse and put the twig inside it. This discovery was going to be huge.
She removed a piece of bark from one of the trees that was still living and coughed as it released a bluish dust, as if the dead part was disintegrating.
She then turned around and walked back into the school, not even realizing that she'd inhaled a mouthful of spores,
The fungus that had infected the trees had never had a human host before. Hopefully it wouldn't kill her like it did the trees.
