"Weird," he mumbled. He needed to figure out how to get back to reality. He googled his town, Lake Point....it didn't seem to exist here. He looked at an online map and zoomed in on his town. The geography was right...but everything else wasn't. It looked like part of it was a forest, other parts seemed to be parts of nearby towns.
There didn't seem to be much point in looking for his family...if they were TV characters...unless this show was based on real people. He looked around, and found a binder marked YAWYW: Show Bible and a script for the pilot they must be shooting. He opened it up, feeling like he was doing something wrong.
"Jon Gibson. Typical sixteen year old teenager who inherits a magical stone from his grandfather. Jon is convinced his grandfather might not really be dead...and he's right."
Jon stared at it. But this was not his world...but was what happened on this show linked to his real life? How was he even going to get his real life back?
"Karyn Black. Karyn is Jon's oldest friend and something of a tomboy. When she first encounters the stone, she wishes she looked more like the school's queen bee cheerleader...and finds herself having to deal with the consequences for the rest of the season."
He needed a cast list...to find the people playing his family. But that wasn't online, as they hadn't even premiered yet. And it wasn't in the bible...and he was almost afraid to read the rest of it and see what else it said. So, he switched to the pilot.
EXT - DAY
WE OPEN on a view of a stone half-wall, where a teenage boy is sitting, swinging his legs. He is clearly waiting for someone. We pan out to reveal a teenage girl strolling toward him.
He flipped through the pages. His meeting with Karyn...the blue branch...with stage directions. Dinner scene with his family...but unlike what he remembered, it seemed he and his Mom had most of the dialogue. Zoe made a few wisecracks, Mikey only had one line. Scene at school...scene with Sarah cornering him about what was different about Karyn that she couldn't place...
He forced himself to read through the script. It was good...for a TV show...but pretty shallow in comparison to his real life. And there were some people he expected to see who weren't there. Sarah's on again off again boyfriend. Which didn't bother him at all. His friends weren't there. Karyn was his best friend, but it wasn't like they didn't have other friends. Maybe they'd be introduced later...it was the pilot.
He spent the rest of the night studying the script, hoping he was one hell of an actor.
